Find the perfect box for moving

When it comes to moving or decluttering, choosing the right storage containers can significantly impact the efficiency and organization of your process. Two popular options are cardboard boxes and reusable bins. Check below to see where to get my favorites!

Cardboard Boxes: The Classic Choice

Pros:

  • Affordable: Cardboard boxes are generally inexpensive and readily available.

  • Lightweight: They're easy to carry, especially when empty.

  • Customizable: You can label them to easily identify the contents of each box.

Cons:

  • Fragile: Cardboard can easily tear or become water-damaged, especially when exposed to the elements.

  • Single-Use: After the move, they often end up in landfills, contributing to waste.

  • Limited Stacking Capacity: Cardboard boxes may not stack as securely as reusable bins, especially when filled with heavy items.

Amy's local pick: Lowes has sturdier cardboard boxes than Walmart. They are a little more expensive, but it is definitely worth the cost since they won't tear easily!

Amazon best seller: If you are more of an online bulk shopper, check out these crowd pleasers on Amazon. With over 28,000 reviews, these boxes have a 4.5 star rating! (I have not tried them personally, but see for yourself!)

Reusable Bins: A Sustainable Solution

Pros:

  • Durable: Reusable bins are made from sturdy materials that can withstand multiple uses.

  • Waterproof: They offer better protection against moisture damage.

  • Stackable: Reusable bins are designed to stack securely, maximizing storage space.

  • Eco-Friendly: By reducing the need for single-use cardboard, you're contributing to a more sustainable future.

Cons:

  • Initial Cost: Reusable bins can be more expensive upfront than cardboard boxes.

  • Bulkier: They may be bulkier to store when not in use.

Amy's local pick: I recommend reusable storage containers for decluttering if you will keep the items stored in the box even after moving (for example, Christmas decorations). Walmart has good tubs for a reasonable price, and sometimes I see them on sale!

Amazon best seller: These quart size bins come in a pack of 4 which is perfect because who ever uses just one storage bin?? They are rated #1 best seller in Lidded Home Storage Bins! (Let me know how they are!)

Which Option is Right for You?

The best choice for you depends on your specific needs and priorities. Consider the following factors:

  • Budget: If you're on a tight budget, cardboard boxes may be a more affordable option.

  • Environmental Impact: If you're concerned about sustainability, reusable bins are a better choice.

  • Frequency of Use: If you move frequently or need storage containers for long-term use, reusable bins are more practical.

  • Protection: If you're moving fragile items or storing belongings in a damp environment, reusable bins offer better protection.

Ultimately, the decision between cardboard boxes and reusable bins is a personal one. By weighing the pros and cons of each option, you can choose the best solution for your moving or decluttering needs.
